In the winter time, when the weather is cold and dry, you need a solid moisturizer to help you make it through.
Hi ya’ll! How’s everyone’s 2018 been going!? I can’t believe that we are starting another year already! I’ve been super busy lately (if you can’t tell by my lack of posts), but I have some new things coming this way that I’m excited about!
Today’s post is brought to you by the cold winter weather! Here is CO it’s actually been a very warm winter – which has been totally weird, but nonetheless, it’s dry here and my skin has been FREAKING OUT. So I’ve needed to up my moisturizer game. Enter Clinique 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator. Have been using this product for a couple of weeks now, and I must say, I don’t typically fancy Clinique products, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised.
Here’s my review of this new moisturizer on the market.
The product retails for $39 for 50ml (1.7 oz.) of product. On their website, you can choose your size… 15ml ($12.00), 30ml ($19.00), 75ml ($52.50).

What It Does
Advanced hydrator with Auto-Replenishing Technology actually helps skin create its own internal water source to continually rehydrate itself. Then locks in all that moisture for an endlessly plump, dewy, healthy-looking glow.
Testing proves it works non-stop for 72 hours—even after washing your face.
Our enhanced formula gives skin a 152% instant moisture boost. Delivers almost twice as much hydration at the end of the day than it did before.
My skin type: Dry/dehydrated, sensitive (easily irritated), mild redness, oily t-zone.
FORMULA | APPLICATION
The product is a gel formula (versus a cream) that reminds me a lot of the original Moisture Surge moisturizer and it has a tint of pink. It is fragrance free for the most part – slight SLIGHT smell – but not anything remotely close to other Clinique products that I’ve tried in the past. A little goes a LONG way, so use sparingly!
If you’ve read a few of my skincare posts, you’ll already know that I prefer a cream to a gel formula. I have combination dry skin and just feel that creams are better suited for dry and sensitive skin types (and gel formulas are better suited for oilier skin types). I find that they feel more moisturizing to the skin and do not dry down and make the skin feel tight. I also prefer using something heavier in the evenings, versus the mornings. This product did hydrate my skin very well throughout the day. I didn’t feel like it was overly tight, or drying, though I don’t like that it’s a gel (just a thing of mine).
You’ll just have to keep in mind that this moisturizer does NOT have SPF protection from the sun, so if you’re using it in the morning, I highly recommend using another product that contains a sunscreen for the day-time. For the testing this moisturizer, I didn’t layer any SPF over it, because I wanted to see how it did without combining any other products that could affect how it worked with my skin. But if I were to use this in the mornings (which I would if I had purchased it since it’s a gel) then I would layer an SPF over the top.
The moisturizer doesn’t have a smell like I mentioned – which I LOVE. I find that the Clinique brand as a whole has a lot of products that smell like chemicals. I prefer more natural smelling products, and have always had a hard time getting used to the smell and I find that those products feel more harsh on my sensitive skin. Absolutely appreciate the fragrance free aspect of this! If you feel the same way that I do about the Clinique smells – you’ll like this!
Overall, I really liked this moisturizer, which surprised me! I don’t enjoy many of the Clinique skincare products, because I just feel like my skin is too sensitive to handle them, but I actually really enjoyed using this! My skin didn’t get dry or patchy throughout the day under my makeup and the makeup that I did apply, went on very well over the top (still using a makeup primer). I was actually impressed by this. Usually gel formulas aren’t moisturizing enough and I find that my skin will peel around my nose from being too dry underneath my makeup. I also didn’t notice my skin getting overly oily in the t-zone area which it tends to after about 8 hours of makeup-wear. The only thing I will say is that it felt a TINY bit drying after first applying it (gel formulas tend to get a little tight), which, again, is pretty standard for a gel product because they get tacky. As far as the Clinique claims about the product, I would agree that it works well for all skin types (just depends on your preference of formula) including sensitive. Fragrance free? Definitely. And I did feel like it was hydrating to my dry skin throughout the entire day.
