Full review and lip swatches of the NEW Tarte Color Splash Lipstick from their Rainforest Of The Sea collection. This was the first products that I’ve ever tried from Tarte’s Rainforest Of The Sea collection and I could not wait to get my hands on these! I saw a couple of sneak peaks from the YouTuber’s who went to the Tarte retreat in Turks and Caicos a few weeks ago. I bought them online before they were available in store so I had to watch the few swatch videos on Youtube that came out before the products was officially launched in Sephora stores to know which shades I wanted to try.
The three lipsticks that I picked up were [eafl id=”2543″ name=”Tarte Color Splash Lipstick” text=”Skinny Dip “](nude beige), [eafl id=”2545″ name=”Tarte Color Splash Lipstick” text=”Beach Babe”] Lip (pink nude), and [eafl id=”2547″ name=”Tarte Color Splash Lipstick” text=”Colada “](peachy brown nude). I purchased these three shades online at Sephora, and they retail for $21.00 a piece.

PACKAGING
I love the packing of the Color Splash Lipsticks. Each tube is really light weight, but still looks luxurious.
Skinny Dip is probably my favorite of the bunch that I picked up. I love true naked flesh-toned nude shades on the lips. I usually pair a color like this with a dark smokey eye, because it really blanks out the lips and pulls the attention to the eye look.
Beach Babe is the perfect pinky nude shade. It’s not too pink, and not too nude, but also not too mauve. I love this color.
Colada is more of a deep orangey brown shade. This would be a great browny nude shade for anyone with medium-deep skin, but it pulled a little darker on me.
FORMULA
To my surprise, the formula of these lipsticks is actually a matte finish. I figured that with the name and the claims, they would be more of a satin finish rather than matte (they also don’t tell you that it’s matte). A Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash lipstick, just doesn’t make sense to be a matte finish in my head. Anyone else? Though the formula of the lipsticks is spot on, I would much rather prefer a satin finish to these lipsticks, and I hope Tarte comes out with non-mattes of the same or similar shades.
APPLICATION
These applied really beautifully and upon first application, they do have a sheen to them. After a few minutes, the sheen goes away and you’re left with a matte lip color, but the formula itself, I really like. It’s not thick like a MAC matte lipstick, but it’s not too thin like your typical drugstore Maybelline lipstick. It’s somewhere in between. It doesn’t pull up or emphasize the dryness of my lips either, but I also would recommend patting your lips together, rather than rubbing them together, because rubbing has a tendency to pull up the product and make it look patchy.
LONGEVITY
Since this is a matte lipstick, the wear-time is a lot longer than your standard lipsticks. I did feel that it started to feel a little tight and dry on my lips after about an hour or so of wear.
The swatches did look true to color, meaning they looked the same on my arm as they did on my lips. Swatch photos taken in filtered natural light on bare lips.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
I really liked the color options available, and the wide array or neutral shades. I like the formula and they apply to the lips very easily and don’t settle into the fine lip lines. I honestly don’t like that these lipsticks are matte! I seriously wish they were more of a satin finish, because, well, for one, I just like that formula better. And two, I think it just makes sense with a Rainforest of the Sea hydrating lipstick line. I think these lipsticks are totally great – Tarte, please come out with some that are satin too please! 🙂
